Family,

As you know, a combination of factors has created a perfect firestorm, and much of our city is on fire. We have been personally affected. My family and I evacuated around noon on Tuesday, watching the fires come down the ridge above us, and by evening, our street was on fire. On Thursday, we received confirmation that we lost our home. (I also know that other members of our church have experienced home loss as well.) However, what is most important is that we are safe. My family is sheltering with relatives in Yorba Linda. Our parents, who live near Pasadena, have also evacuated and are sheltering with us.

Fires are devastating but also clarifying—they reveal what you truly value. In this painful season, we are reminded that what matters most is not what we own, but who we love. We have our family, our friends, and our church community. We are deeply thankful for you and for the incredible outpouring of love you have shown our family.

Please keep all those affected in your prayers. Many people have lost their homes and are displaced. If you know anyone in need, please love and care for them. If you, my Renew family, are directly affected by these fires, please know we will stand with you. You have a pastor who is very familiar with your pain. My team will include details for those who need help and those who would like to provide assistance.

It is not lost on me that all this is happening during our week of fasting. Let’s continue to seek God together and fix our eyes on the cross of Jesus. I look forward to praying with you this week and worshipping with you this Sunday. I will be sharing a special sermon in light of these circumstances.

Much love,

Pastor Dihan
